RFID: "BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU"
RFID technology has come a long way since it began 20 years ago. RFID chips have been developed small inough to be inlayed into a piece of paper. RFID technology has been used for years to seamingly make life easier. Master Card uses it to make payment for products quik and easy, and travelers use RFID technology with prepaid toll-road services. But now it seems that this technology could be proposing a threat to people's perivacy and security
What will happen when the government uses RFID technology to track people? The trend has already started. RFID chips are currently being used in passports to electronically record a persons travel activities. Hospitals are allready using RFID technology to track patiants, claiming that it helps then to provide better care and service. The LA County Jail has implimented an RFID tracking system for it's inmates. The Brittan elementary school in California and the Spring Independent School District in Texas, have run "test programs" where students where required to wear tags haning from their necks with their names, grade, and an implanted RFID tag. The tags told the school when childeren entered or exited busses, school buildings and rooms in the school. VIP members of Barcelona's Baja Beach Club are required to have an implanted chip that the club uses to automatically debit their credit cards to pay for drinks. The corportion Verichip makes FDA-approved RFID tags designed to be implanted in humans.
How long before we all have implanted microships? Verichip has already proposed for RFID technology to track imigrants and seasonal workers in the US. How long before you have to have an implanted chip in order to enter a government building work in public service, have a drivers license, or go grocery shopping?
